Title: Ratification by the Board of Education of a Professional Services Contract between District and Lamar Hancock, Oakland, CA, for the latter to work with school administration and teachers to support the academic success of rising 9th graders who have struggled academically in middle school or otherwise are identified by the district as high risk of dropping out of high school as follows: (1) Implement an online literacy course to accelerate reading skills of at risk students; (2) Support administrators and teachers in each of the ninth grade houses or small learning communities ("SLC") in their collaborative efforts to ensure the academic success of all 9th graders, with a particular emphasis on those most at risk, which include our African American students; and (3) Support administrators and teachers to increase attendance and reduce suspensions, particularly for African American and Latino males, for the period July 1, 2013 through August 13, 2013, in an amount not to exceed $3,575.0...
