Title: Approval by the Board of Education of Grant Agreement (#8GA22421) by and between the District and the State of California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), with District accepting a grant award in the amount of $4,998,782.88, for the purpose of supporting Oakland Living Schoolyards Implementation Project, which will serve two campuses, Manzanita Elementary School and Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, which Project objectives include adding outdoor classroom and picnic areas; planting trees and vegetated landscapes; building pollinator gardens; adding natural play areas and nature-based play structures; installing raised beds for edible food gardens; enhancing stormwater management on site; and to involve the school community in the design implementation and stewardship of the living schoolyard, as well as to improve the health, well-being, and educational outcomes of students, for the term, December 6, 2023, through March 30, 2026.
