Ratification by the Board of Education of a Professional Services Contract between District and Julia Garcia, Oakland, CA, for the latter to provide 90 hours of services to Oakland Technical High School as follows: Contractor will contact parents and guardians of students for whom English is a second language, at home, in person, or by phone, to obtain information required by the school and to inform the parents and guardians about the school and its policies and programs; inform parents and guardians of their students' progress and any academic problems at school and discuss the students' attendance with the parents and guardians; make efforts to promote understanding and good relations among the parents, the school, and the community; recruit parents and guardians for whom English is a second language as volunteers in school functions; assist the English Language Advisory Committee in organizing and conducting meetings; help parents and guardians to understand, complete, and return the required Parent Notification Letters that define individual ESL student programs; act as a resource person for other parent advisory groups, as needed, and attend their meetings; and translate for staff and parents, as needed and act as otherwise described in the Scope of Work, for the period May 1, 2012 through June 30, 2012, in an amount not to exceed $1,350.00.
