Ratification by the Board of Education of a Professional Services Contract between District and Valerie Berthiaume, Oakland, CA, for the latter to provide 664 hours of service for the design of English Language Development (ELD) tutoring groups for English Language Learner (ELL) students who are California English Language Development Test (CELDT) 1 and 2, K-2 and CELDT 1-3, grades 3-5; monitor student progress in oral language development every six weeks and collaborate with school day and after school program teachers every month regarding academic progress of students; design professional development on Strategically Designed Academic Instruction in English and other best practices to help ELL students acquire Academic English skills for school day and after school program staff on a monthly basis; design pre and post assessments to monitor student progress; and engage parents in helping to close the achievement gap by coordinating a series of parent education forums centered around effective at-home strategies that support increased achievement in classrooms at Sequoia Elementary School, for the period October 1, 2009 through June 25, 2010, in an amount not to exceed $33,200.00.
