Title
Presentation by Alanna Lim, Director of Student Assignment, to Community Advisory Committee regarding students with IEP’s in the School Options Process:
Guiding Questions for the Presentation:
• What guidance do you have for parents and guardians of students with IEPs to participate in the School Options process, especially in light of OUSD’s commitment to greater inclusion of students with IEPs in school-wide programs, standards-based instruction, and overall school life? Please provide specific guidance for different types of placements within OUSD (from most restrictive to least restrictive).
• More specifically, how does School Mint work for families who have students in specialized programs? Have past problems been resolved?
• How are you implementing the School Board policy that protects access and program stability by requiring that spaces for Special Education programs be set aside first?
• How are you ensuring that planning for Special Education support (e.g. Resource Specialist caseload limits) does not unfairly curtail access to quality/high-demand schools for students with IEPs?
