Ratification by the Board of Education of a Professional Services Contract between District and Roberta Draheim, Oakland, CA, for the latter to provide 400 hours support to the Sobrante Park Writing Program, as follows: twice a week writer's workshops for grades 2-5 with instruction, additional support materials, writing guidance, review of student work on OCR and or OCR-related writing assignments, unit lesson plans with daily assignments provided to teachers; additional writing homework templates provided for teachers for assignments 1-2 times per week and over extended breaks; correction of student work with grading and feedback to students and teachers, facilitation peer corrections, facilitation formal writing coach/student conferences; writer's reference for students, grades 3-5, reference includes: writing process, thesaurus, word book/dictionary, word lists: sequence, transition, high-frequency, math vocabulary, genre overviews, personal revision lists, grammar overview etc; folders for class and for homework for in-progress work and materials, pre-writing/notes/getting started workbooks, personal revision list, genre and skills overviews, cool words lists (mini-dictionary for each unit); 3 writing contests per year, based on OCR writing focus; winners work is posted and winners receive books as prizes; 4th grade writing academy in the winter - intensive review of key genres (narrative, summary, response to literature) and basic writing skills; author's nights 2-3 per year - students read their work to their peers, their teachers, and their parents, anthology of all participating author's work given to each reader; collaboration with After-School Program - providing OCR unit-related exercises at each grade level; provide materials and strategies for K and 1st grade upon request/need; writer's workshop and workbook for teachers to provide strategies and insights into effectively integrating writing across the curriculum; special projects, i.e. 4th g...
