2024 in an amount not to exceed $64,414.29.

Chairperson Grover opened the floor for discussion on Bay Area
Technology Charter (6-12) School Grant Proposal for School Year 2023-24.
Francesca Fey, Director of Academic Programs, East Bay Innovation
Academy and Mick Terrizzi, Site Leader, East Bay Innovation, Bonita
Herrera, Senior Director of Operations, East Bay Innovation Academy,
responded to questions from the Commission.
Discussion: Commissioner Tambu, Secretary Chun, Vice Chairperson
Muhammad, Chairperson Grover
Chairperson Grover noted that the chronic absences of Asian American
increased from 0% in School Year (SY) 2021-22 to 8.3% in SY 2022-23,
and requested information on what line item(s) in the proposal are being
used to reduce the absences of Asian Americans?
Mick Terrizzi responded, the Asian American population makes up the
smallest population on campus at about 3% of the total population. Line
item 3 in the Summary of Proposed Expenditures for a 0.6 Full Time
Equivalent (FTE) Culture and Climate Specialist will address the issues of
absences and suspensions on campus.
Chair Grover questioned that the LatinX suspensions rates have increased
from 2% in SY 2021-22 to 4% in SY 2022-23 however the Goal for 2023-24
regarding suspension rates for LatinX student says Low and Proportionate.
Chair Grover requested more information on what does Low and
Proportionate indicate.
Francesca Fey responded, the Low and Proportionate was carried over
from the last grant writer from the previous year. We can provide the
concrete numbers instead of the description Low and Proportionate.
Chair Grover noted that in the description of Proposed Expenditures for
Musical Theatre, it states the musical will be accessible to all students at the
School, however it is unclear whether that means as participants or as
audience members.
Francesca Fey responded, all students participate in some way in the
production of the play whether that is as audience members, set designers,
