Visits - Office of Charter Schools  
An Oral Report to the Charter Matters Committee by Director, Office of  
Charter Schools, or designee, on the follow matters:

Updates on Charter School Renewal Guidance from the California  
Department of Education (CDE).

Charter School Site Visits.  
Director Krag-Arnold, Charter Schools Office, gave a report on Charter  
Renewal Guidance and OUSD Charter School Site Visits.  
Charter Renewal Guidance - California Department of Education updated the  
Charter Renewal Guidance on October 13, 2022 that will be in effect until  
June 2024.  
OUSD Charter School Site Visits - The Charter Schools Office visited 28  
Charter School Sites for Fall 2022.  
Key observations from site visits are:  
- Staffing shortages at Charter School Sites.  
- Students utilizing technology received during the Covid pandemic, such as  
chromebooks during classroom instruction.  
Formal OUSD Charter School Site Visits will begin in Spring of 2023.  
Director Krag-Arnold responded to comments and questions from the  
Committee.

Charter Schools, or designee, on an overview of Proposition 39 and a  
review of the 2023 - 24 Proposition 39 Applicants.  
Attachments:  
Deputy Director Thomas, Charter School Office, gave a brief summary of  
Proposition 39, provided a list of Proposition 39 applicants, and discussed  
the annual deadlines for Proposition 39 Applicants. Deputy Director Thomas  
responded to questions and comments from the Committee.

Franco, Consultant, on Charter Matters Committee Visioning and Goal  
Setting for the 2022 - 23 School Year.  
Attachments:  
Dr. Carmella Franco, Board Consultant, gave a presentation on Visioning and  
Goal Setting for the Charter Matters Committee and had a discussion with the  
Committee Members.  
Dr. Carmella Franco and Charter School Office staff will gather the feedback  
from the visioning and goal setting discussion with Committee Members to  
develop a draft vision statement for the Charter Matters Committee at a future  
Charter Matters Committee Meeting.

This section of the agenda provides an opportunity for a member of the

subject matter jurisdiction of the Committee. Minutes are not transferrable  
from speaker to speaker. This item is limited to a total of thirty (30) minutes.

staff may briefly respond to a statement made or questions posed by a
