Title: Ratification by the Board of Education of a Professional Services Contract between District and Tiago J. Robinson, Pinole, CA, for the latter to provide 500 hours of service by working with school administration and teachers to support the academic success of 9th grade African American students in the following ways: 1) provide leadership for implementation of a special course to support the success of 9th grade African American males who are at risk of failing the 9th grade and ultimately dropping out of school; consultant will be trained by the district's African American Male Success Initiative in delivery of the Curriculum 180 Degree Program and will work with a certificated instructor to ensure high quality implementation of the program in a year-long class that meets daily; 2) support administrators and teachers in each of the ninth grade houses or small learning communities (SLC) in their collaborative efforts to ensure the academic success of all 9th graders, with a particular emphasis on those most at risk, which include our African American students; consultant will participate in all weekly and other scheduled SLC meetings and provide student support and family assistance identified at these meetings to be crucial to student success; and 3) support administrators and teachers to develop and implement systems for increasing attendance and reducing suspensions, particularly for African American and Latino males, for the period September 10, 2011 through June 30, 2012, in an amount not to exceed $25,000.00.
